Emerging from Circuit Breaker and Protecting Yourself, Your Visitors or Your Customers
As we emerge from the strict circuit breaker rules and begin allowing guests or visitors to re-enter our properties again, whether a residential unit or perhaps small commercial premises, we must consider how we prepare our buildings to receive guests or customers in safety.
One of the main areas of concern is ensuring that properties have been thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and disinfected to reduce the risk of cross contamination and the transmission of infectious disease organisms via contaminated surfaces and objects. Of course, to reduce this risk of disease transmission completely, a very thorough job needs to be completed with meticulous attention to detail.
The Singapore Government has published some very basic guidelines on how to undertake the process of decontamination and the advisory note provides a simple overview of what equipment, chemicals and personal protective equipment will be required to tackle the required task.
Basically, success is dependent on strict adherence to the instructions!
First, thorough cleaning of all surfaces is undertaken using appropriate antimicrobial detergent and hot water, the intention at this stage of the process is to remove all the dirt and soil along with any organic residues or films. It is important that all surfaces, walls, floors, furniture and objects are left scrupulously clean, as even small traces of dirt or organic matter can successfully harbour or protect germs from disinfection.
Following cleaning and sanitation, the process is repeated using an appropriate disinfectant solution diluted at the correct ratio, with water at the correct temperature. Great care needs to be taken when applying the disinfectant solution that no areas, nooks or crannies are missed. Finally, everything needs to be carefully wiped down with antimicrobial cleaning cloths.
Of course, this cleaning and disinfection procedure does not always have to a be a DIY task, there are renowned experts such as Big Red who can undertake the work quickly, efficiently and effectively on your behalf.
